Why we need 24 months of vet history

Insurance covers new health problems, not ones your pet already had. So before your first claim, we and our insurance partner review your pet's recent vet records to set a clear baseline. Having the last 24 months on file means your first claim moves faster, with no surprises later.

Is your pet over 2 years old?

Send us their last 24 months of vet records, and you're set. If there's a gap, like a recent adoption or a stretch without visits, schedule a wellness check so your pet has recent records on file. Without recent records, your first claim may not be covered.

Is your pet under 2 years old?

Upload whatever vet records you have through your dashboard. If your pet hasn't been to the vet yet, a quick wellness check establishes their health history. Without recent records, your first claim may not be covered.

Frequently asked questions

  • Your pet is still covered. You'll just file a manual claim from your dashboard or by emailing support@nibbles.com — it's a couple of fields plus uploading your invoice. But remembering to use the card can streamline the process.
  • Pretty rare these days, but it happens. You can pay however you need to and then file a manual claim in the app. The reimbursement methods and timing are exactly the same.
  • Once your pet's insurance policy has been finalized and is active, any vet visit after that may be covered. You have up to 180 days after any vet visit to file the claim.
  • Yes. Every document we request, receive, and submit is visible in your dashboard under the claim. Nothing happens behind a curtain.
  • We'll tell you exactly why, and your dashboard will show what the insurance partner saw. Some denials are appealable; we'll walk you through the appeal if it makes sense. The most common cause is a pre-existing condition that isn't covered.
  • Get a wellness check as soon as possible to establish your pet's health history. Without this, your first claim could be denied.
