Customize your insurance plan with add-ons for wellness care, higher limits, and more
Three key components determine how your pet insurance works
The total amount insurance will reimburse you yearly for covered procedures.
The annual limit is the ceiling of how much insurance will cover each year for your pet.
$10,000 annual limit
No, the wellness plan has other limits by covered preventive procedure that are separate from the annual limit for your accident and illness coverage.
Increase your annual limit to $25K or $40K per year to be prepared for most anything that comes your pet’s way. We do not currently offer an unlimited annual limit plan.
The percentage of covered costs insurance pays after your deductible
Once you pay your deductible, the insurance coverage will reimburse 80% of covered procedures. Reimbursement happens once a claim is approved and a check is sent by mail to your home address on file.
80% reimbursement rate
The wellness plan is a reimbursement plan where you are reimbursed up to a certain flat amount for covered preventive services and procedures rather than at a % rate like with the general accident and illness insurance coverage.
Increase your reimbursement rate to 90% for lower out of pocket costs for any covered expense.
The amount you pay out-of-pocket before insurance kicks in each year
You pay this amount annually before your insurance starts covering eligible expenses. For example, with a covered $5K bill, the reimbursement rate is calculated first (80%, $4,000) off the full amount with the deductible taken from the reimbursable amount ($4,000 - $500), then insurance covers the rest ($3,500). Your out of pocket here would be $1,500 (20% of the $5K + $500 deductible).
$500 annual deductible
The deductible does not apply to the optional wellness plan add-on, which has separate coverage terms.
Lower your deductible to $250 or $100 for faster coverage at a higher monthly premium.
Most pet insurances exclude pre-existing conditions. So it’s important to insure your pet as early as possible before a condition occurs.
A pre-existing condition is any injury, illness, or condition that occurred or showed symptoms before your coverage began or during waiting periods.
We primarily look at the past 18 months to determine if any conditions are deemed pre-existing.
Any chronic, bilateral, or intervertebral disc conditions at any time in your pet's medical history would be deemed pre-existing as well.
Examples include diabetes, arthritis, or hip dysplasia diagnosed before coverage.
Issues that occur during waiting periods are also considered pre-existing. This protects against enrolling pets only after they become sick or injured.
When filing a claim, we will request your pet’s medical records to ensure accurate coverage determination and protect all policy holders.

Pet eligibility for the free insurance depends on age, breed, gender, zip code, and other factors. Puppies and kittens need to be 7 or more weeks old at the time of applying.
Some pets can be ineligible for the free insurance but eligible for paid pet insurance where you cover the premium. When applying, the eligibility pertains to the free insurance.
Pets currently with conditions like Addison's disease, Cushing's disease, Diabetes, Cancer (mast cell disease), Feline Leukemia Virus (FELV), and Feline Immunodeficiency (FIV) are not eligible for any insurance (paid or free).
If you are reimbursed, we currently offer reimbursement by mailed check directly from our insurance partner, Odie, to your address on file with us.
If you do not use your Nibbles card at the vet, your pet is still covered! However, you will have to file a manual claim through the account dashboard or via support@nibbles.com to initiate that process.
