The base insurance policy covers one eligible pet. Dogs must be between 6 weeks and 7 years old and cats must be between 6 weeks and 9 years old to qualify.

Coverage at every vet

Visit any licensed veterinarian in the US. No network restrictions means you choose the best care for your pets.

Use your card at the vet and you will get an email asking if you want us to start a claim. We can file your claim for you, unlike other providers.

Protect your pet from the unexpected

Vet costs have risen 49% since late 2019 and 80% of pets will have a medical emergency in their lifetimes.

How pet insurance works

Three key components determine how your pet insurance works

  • Annual Limit

The maximum amount insurance will reimburse you each year for eligible expenses

    How it works:

The annual limit is the ceiling of how much insurance will cover each year for your pet.

    Base plan:

    $20,000 annual limit

    Upgrade options:

    None.

  • Reimbursement Rate

The percentage of covered costs insurance pays after your deductible

    How it works:

Once you pay your deductible, the insurance coverage will reimburse 70% of covered procedures. Reimbursement happens once a claim is approved.

    Base plan:

    70% reimbursement rate

    Upgrade options:

Increase your reimbursement rate to 80% or 90% for lower out of pocket costs for any covered expense.

  • Deductible

The amount you pay out-of-pocket before insurance kicks in each year

    How it works:

You pay this amount annually towards eligible expenses before your insurance starts covering eligible expenses based on the reimbursement rate. Any costs you pay for eligible accidents and illnesses will count toward your deductible.

    Base plan:

    $950 annual deductible

    Upgrade options:

Lower your deductible to as low as $100 so the reimbursement rate kicks in more quickly.

Understanding pre-existing conditions

Most pet insurances exclude pre-existing conditions. So it’s important to insure your pet as early as possible before a condition occurs.

  • What is a pre-existing condition?

A condition may be deemed pre-existing when your pet was already showing clinical signs and symptoms before the policy start date or during the waiting period. This also includes conditions for which your pet has received previous treatment or medical advice.

We review the past medical records to determine if any conditions are deemed pre-existing.

  • Why waiting periods matter

Issues that occur during waiting periods are also considered pre-existing. This protects against enrolling pets only after they become sick or injured.

  • Medical records review

When filing a claim, we will request your pet’s medical records (the past 24 months worth) to ensure accurate coverage determination.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pet eligibility for the included insurance depends on age, breed, gender, zip code, and other factors. Puppies and kittens need to be 6 or more weeks old at the time of applying. Dogs need to be under the age of 8 and cats need to be under the age of 10 at the time of enrollment.

Some pets can be ineligible for the built-in insurance benefit but eligible for paid pet insurance where you cover the premium. When applying, the eligibility pertains to the built-in base insurance.

    1. If you use the Nibbles card at the vet, we will see the transaction come through and send you an email asking if you would like us to file the claim for you. All you have to do is reply with “yes” and a brief sentence describing what happened.
    2. We will work with our insurance partner to get all of the appropriate documents over to them and to get the claim filed as quickly as possible.
    3. You will be informed when a decision has been made on your claim and reimbursed if necessary.

If you do not use your Nibbles card at the vet, your pet is still covered! However, you will have to file a manual claim through the account dashboard or via support@nibbles.com to initiate that process.

  • Additional pets can be added on at an extra cost after you become a cardmember and receive up to a 5% discount on the premium. If you would like a quote for your whole pet family before applying, you can send us a note at support@nibbles.com.
  • If your pet is ineligible for the complimentary insurance, you can still apply for the credit card and get 3x rewards on pet purchases. Your pet could still qualify for insurance coverage, but that would be at an extra cost where you would cover the full premium. Some pets unfortunately may not qualify at all for our insurance coverage, either complimentary or paid. We are happy to run a quote for your pet at support@nibbles.com.
